Okay, how about this one? A Beechcraft Sierra, N123SS, flying into Q60 airport (Sierra Sky Park), which is near the Sierra Mountains, in what used to be called Sierra Approach (now called Norcal Approach) grabs ATIS and calls ATC.

Sierra Approach, november-one-two-three-sierra-sierra is a Sierra, over the Sierras, landing Sierra Sky Park with information Sierra.

Last time I was at Atlanta Hartsfield, ground used “dixie” instead of “delta”, presumably for similar reasons (if not also for the usual Southern Thing reasons…).

I’m pretty sure Whisky is out of the question, though I wouldn’t rule out Yankee Airlines…

It might also be so that people who are going to fly delta would not get too confused – I dont think all Delta flights arrive and depart from concourse D?
