Though we were in VMC, there was lots of convective activity around us. Of course, I was cross-checking the mag compass frequently, but the last check was before entering the final ILS approach (which brought us close to one TCU cell). If the mag compass had gone screwy during the ILS itself, neither I nor the examiner would likely have noticed, since the mag compass drops out of the normal scan during an ILS. […]
